A knowledge migrant is a migrant who comes to the Netherlands on a labour contract paying a gross income of at least € 49.087,00 or € 35.997,00 if he or she is under 30 years old.
The MVV and the VVR can both be requested through the knowledge migrant procedure. Both the MVV and the VVR requests are processed by the knowledge migrants counter at the IND in Rijswijk. The application forms are only available for completion and printing electronically. This must be done by logging into the IND website. The employer requires a code to log in and access the IND site. The company must request this access by completing a application form which IND uses to screen the requesting company.
Payment of the fees can be made via automatic bank transfer. It is advised to use this process. Other fee payment forms e.g. giro or invoice can delay the process so much that the ‘reduced’ procedure may be more appropriate.
Note:
A knowledge migrant who arrives with a MVV-knowledge migrant can begin work immediately after requesting his resident’s permit. He or she can also request a BSN number. However, a knowledge migrant (e.g. an American) who arrives in Netherlands without a MVV can only start working after the issue of their resident’s permitIn the event that the knowledge migrant must begin work immediately upon their arrival in the Netherlands it is advised to request a MVV although it is not compulsory.
