Entry Visa required for a stay in the NL longer than 3 months
The revised Dutch Immigration Law effective as of November 23, 2000 states that all aliens who want to stay longer than 3 months in the Netherlands will need to have a valid Machtiging tot Voorlopig Verblijf (MVV). An MVV visa can only be issued to the alien at the Dutch Embassy or Consulate in his/her country of origin.
The above revision also has consequences for those aliens who are already residing in the Netherlands with a Residence Permit. It is of the utmost importance that they renew their resident permit on time. In case the alien is misses the deadline, he/she will need to return to the country of origin to apply for a MVV. During the application of an MVV the alien is not allowed to be in the Netherlands.
The MVV visa is not a requirement for those aliens with the following nationalities: Australia, Canada, United States of America, Japan, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, New Zealand and all the countries of the European Community.
